After hitting our 10th year in business in 2018, we have recently been wondering what makes Southwark such a great place to be based in London. In short – the answers were pretty easy to find! Here’s a few reasons why we love Southwark so much:
It’s a Hub of Entrepreneurship
Southwark is home to many startups and SMEs – the area is simply a breeding ground for entrepreneurial activity. The South Business Excellence Awards, which humblebrag incoming – we’ve been nominated for before 😉 – showcase the great array of business talent we have in the area.
We at Source Marketing Direct are proud to offer a platform for entrepreneurship, and we understand that small businesses make up a significant proportion of the business community and their success is a critical factor to our local and regional economy.
The Morning Coffee Spots
Good luck finding a better Cappuccino or double espresso fix than at London Grind! The riverside venue turns into a cocktail bar and restaurant later in the day, and we can definitely vouch for the menu. Black Sheep Coffee also gets an honourable mention!
The Food & Drink
In fact – while we’re talking food, what about the Southwark area hosting the trio of Flat Iron Square, The Shard and Borough Market? A triphecta of awesomeness, we say. Our team are regular visitors of all 3. If we’re feeling lazy we’ll head to Pret for lunch, but every now and again we need something a little more snazzy – it’s off to Borough Market or Flat Iron Square to inhale a good Pad Thai.
We’re actually big fans of the Shard – we had our 10th-anniversary party at the Gong Bar, and we regularly host Rising Star events and workshops there. We can’t get away! But hey – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right?
The Culture
Southwark is renowned for its vibrant, world-class performing and visual arts, history and heritage. It hosts the Tate Modern, the Imperial War Museum and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre to name just a few.
Did you know it’s one of the oldest parts of London? It began – as much of the city did – as a Roman settlement!
For us, it’s important to be based in an area that serves our needs. In Southwark we have a location that gives us exactly what we want, in and outside of working environments, it really is a great place.
Even if you hold no interest in joining our team of trailblazers, we still recommend you visit the area one lunchtime or weekend!
