One of the most critical tasks a leader can fulfill is to create clarity for themselves and their organisation. A lack of clarity within any organisation can significantly impact performance, creating a three-headed monster which, if left unchallenged, can throw a business off track. These three core issues can be broken down into:

A Lack of understanding of individuals goals

People don’t choose to work for a company out of the kindness of their hearts; they work for a company because they believe it can help them to achieve their own personal goals, alongside providing them with a source of income. Understanding these personal goals can help a leader to tie them together with business goals, utilizing each individuals personal motivation and natural enthusiasm to secure business goals faster.

A basic misunderstanding of daily activities

When businesses goals have no bearing on an individuals team members own personal goals, they will lack the motivation to perform everyday tasks. Often this will lead to individuals picking and choosing how productive they will be day-to-day. Leaders can combat this by ensuring they have a clear accountability program in place and that team members are fully aware of their responsibilities and how their own goals can play into everyday tasks.

Combating outside influences

All businesses are at risk of being caught out by external forces, these could be economic or social impacts, or they could be the personal responsibilities for team members outside of the workplace. Leaders can strengthen relationships by being aware of these outside influencers and acknowledging their existence.  By discussing processes for dealing with them will leave the leader in a position to build confidence among their workforce.
