Hector Montalvo of Source Marketing Direct has been asked to speak to a group of budding entrepreneurs on April 14th 2012 in London. The seminar will focus on time management, goal setting and achievement, as well as the positives and negatives of working for oneself
The seminar, hosted by Source Marketing Direct, was organised after findings that entrepreneurs, not just care workers or similar, are prone to ‘burnout as reported in USA Today on 21st March 2012. USA Today describes the ‘burnout’ phenomenon as a “lack of enthusiasm for something or when we have grown weary of the daily routine”. Traditionally it was thought that ‘burnout’ was only seen in care related professions where the personal involvement level is high however it is becoming more and more visible in entrepreneurs in many different industries.
When research conducted by Source Marketing Direct highlighted similar findings here in the UK among entrepreneurs in the direct marketing and sales industry the seminar was organised to help young entrepreneurs balance their personal and professional ambitions in order to avoid, or reduce the effects of ‘burnout’.
Hector Montalvo, managing director of Source Marketing Direct has run his own business for over 11 years having started work on a self employed basis at the age of 25. He comments “when I read the article in USA Today I related to it immediately. I love my business but there have definitely been times when I have asked myself ‘have I been doing this too long?’ and the article reassured me the answer was no, but a change of routine was needed. I started reading and trying to educate myself more on how this can be overcome. As an entrepreneur, one’s vested interest in the company doing well is naturally very high as it is your own company, and therefore what you put in is what you get out. This vested interest can be harmful though when one does not manage the balance between their professional and personal ventures adequately. It is so easy to push things to the back burner when there are pressing work issues to be dealt with. The result is burnout – the feeling that your whole life has become work, and the same routine day in day out.”
Source Marketing Direct will host the seminar this coming week in order to provide information to young entrepreneurs on Time Management strategy, Prioritising, and Goal setting.
Hector Montalvo of Source Marketing Direct adds “I am hoping that by educating the up and coming entrepreneurs on some of these issues, this generation will be better equipped than I was when I first started out. Burnout can be minimised and managed quite effectively with the right tools and awareness. This next generation of Entrepreneurs are our hope for a better economy and more opportunity over the next 20 years; I am hoping to continue these seminars in order to pass my knowledge along”.
